Het oppervlakte van kleideeltjes heeft een negatieve elektrische lading. Zilt gronden zijn meestal koud en waterdicht en kunnen gemakkelijk water opnemen door capillaire werking. De kleinste minerale deeltjes, klei, hebben een grote invloed op de bodem, zelfs al is de concentratie maar rond de 5%. Kleigronden krimpen en zwellen en geven een bewerkte structuur aan de grond, met scheuren en spleten waar wortels kunnen groeien door het gehele bodemprofiel. De typische kenmerken van verschillende grondsoorten worden bepaald door het kleigehalte. Regenwormen spelen een specifieke -en belangrijke rol bij het afbreken van het organische materiaal en het mengen van de grond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Bacteri\u00ebn en schimmels<\/strong>\u00a0zetten de afbraak in fases voort. De laatste fase genaamd mineralisatie, is de vorming van simpele eindproducten die beschikbaar zijn voor planten (bijvoorbeeld: nitraat, fosfaat en sulfaat).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Vorming van humus.\u00a0<\/strong>De ontbinding van verschillende organische stoffen, verloopt via een reeks stappen die steeds eenvoudiger worden naarmate de ontbinding verder vordert. Deze tussenstappen reageren op elkaar door verbindingen die gemaakt worden door de bodemorganismen. Dit leidt tot de vorming van nieuwe chemische stoffen die worden omgezet in een hoog molecule gewicht, met een donkere kleur, bekent als humusachtige stoffen. Deze humusachtige stoffen hebben het vermogen om positief geladen ionen van kalium, calcium en magnesium te binden.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column Deze bodems zijn donker van kleur en het bodemopbrekendvermogen is groter. Dit opbrekende vermogen verminderd het risico op korstvorming. Deze bodems moeten voor goede teeltomstandigheden bij het juiste watergehalte worden bewerkt. Er is wel een risico voor het vormen van kluiten als de omstandigheden te droog zijn of voor verdichting als de omstandigheden te nat zijn. Kleigronden met 40% klei<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-18\"><p>Zware klei heeft een erg hoog water behoudend vermogen, maar het meeste water is niet direct beschikbaar voor de planten. Het humusvermogen is meestal hoger dan in andere minerale bodems. Ze vormen geen korst wanneer ze droog zijn. Deze bodems hebben een erg goede mogelijkheid om hun structuur te verbeteren door middel van bijvoorbeeld, vriezen\/ontdooien en drogen\/bevochtigen. In koude winters vriest klei uit elkaar en vormt het een zeer gunstige bewerkbare structuur in de bovenste laag van de grond. Als de klei uitdroogt zonder dat het bevroren was, kan het erg hard worden en is het erg lastig om te bewerken.<\/p>\n<p>In de met water verzadigde toestand kunnen deze gronden zeer kleverig zijn en zeer ondoordringbaar voor water. Door het hoge kleigehalte, is het voedingsgehalte ook erg hoog. Zware klei heeft een goede terug verdichting nodig op het zaad als deze in droge omstandigheden wordt gezaaid, maar niet wanneer de omstandigheden vochtig zijn.
